Protectolast WS VCI

Protectolast WS VCI—your ally against corrosion’s tyranny. there’s metal, there’s protection!. a unique water-soluble powder designed specially to safeguard metal surfaces in enclosed spaces, self-seal systems, and after hydro tests by creating protective layer on metals, effectively preventing corrosion in ferrous materials in oil and gas pipes. Protectolast WS VCI stands out with its strong protective abilities. It eliminates the need for forced drying after pressure tests, reducing the risk of issues like valve seizing and pipework blockages. Furthermore, Protectolast WS VCI excels in safeguarding metals in hard-to-reach areas, making it particularly suited for dry corrosion protection in recessed spaces, interior cavities, and voids.

Why to Choose Protectolast System?

Preventing LOPC & Enhancing Safety

  1. -Prevents Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) by forming a protective layer on metal surfaces.
  2. -Stops soil-side & internal corrosion, reducing leaks, spills, and safety risks.
  3. -Supports HSE compliance and minimizes environmental impact.

Cost Efficiency & Operational Benefits

  1. -Up to 60 months of protection = Lower maintenance costs & extended asset life.
  2. -Reduces downtime — long-term protection with minimal intervention.
  3. -Easy Application and Easy Removal.

External Ports Infusion System

SKPS has developed and standardized a proprietary system for the application of Protectolast® Water-Soluble Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI). Following the completion of the Initial Site Assessment, Design Report, Method Statement (MS), and all other relevant documentation, the SKPS Protectolast Heavy-Duty Service Truck is mobilized to site for execution.

In most cases, the Protectolast® WS VCI system targets the underside of the tank bottom plate, specifically the interface between the steel base and the soil foundation. This is a critical enclosed environment that becomes inaccessible once the tank is commissioned, making proactive protection essential.

The application setup comprises an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) where the Protectolast® VCI concentrate is diluted and homogenized with water, a high-pressure pump to ensure a steady and controlled flow, and a network of hoses, injection pipes, and specialized fittings. This configuration allows for efficient delivery, even distribution, and continuous monitoring before, during, and after injection.

In parallel, ER probes are installed in the same area where VCI is introduced. These probes are positioned to make direct contact with the foundation material and are housed within custom-engineered SKPS junction boxes. The junction boxes are designed for durability and accessibility, allowing real-time corrosion rate monitoring through data loggers without disrupting tank operations.

Once injected, the Protectolast® VCI particles diffuse through the sand layer, forming a molecular protective film over the steel surface. This inhibitive layer neutralizes corrosion reactions, ensuring long-term protection of the tank bottom for up to five years, subject to the results of the soil resistivity and moisture content analyses conducted during the site assessment phase.
